Latest ASUU Strike Update: The Way Things Are Going

It is no news that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has been on strike since March, earlier this year, as a result of the Federal Government refusal to meet its demands without the conditionality of the IPPIS system.

Here are ways to make money online before the end of the ASUU strike

Why Nigerian Universities may not open on time in 2021

There has been a lot of here-and-there in the course of the conflict resolution between ASUU and the Nigerian Federal Government.

Remember that the previously-illegally-suspended VC of Unilag, Dr Ogundipe has been reinstated. He was pushing the notion that UNILAG would soon resume. Hopefully, he will find a way out soon!

Students have been on the receiving end of this saga, and many students have expressed their displeasure on various social media. ASUU on the other end, cannot be blamed as they are being poorly paid.

ASUU has been explaining in tweets from their Official Twitter account, about their willingness to resume and the unwillingness of the Government to show genuine concern for them.

The Way Things Are Now

ASUU is set to have a meeting with the Federal Government tomorrow, which might not hold because the government invited them through unofficial means, and they are  not finding this gesture very funny. The conclusion of that meeting will determine a lot of things. Unfortunately, if there is no resolution in a week time, students might have to just learn a skill online as schools would most likely not resume till next year.

It is a sad and truly painful situation that students have no control of.

Summary: Resumption might not be possible this year

ASUU coordinator noted that the new set of students were already waiting to be admitted, adding that when school resumed it would be difficult to manage the situation.
He said: “His (Ngige) recent comments on Channels TV is a signal that Universities cannot reopen this 2020 and this government gambling with the future of Nigerian Youths.

“The handwriting has always been on the wall about the reluctance of this government to take necessary steps to ensure that our universities reopen this year.”
Onyebinama said: “IPPIS is not the legal instrument for solving the problem of monumental fraud perpetrated by some administrators of the universities.

“IPPIS taxes rent subsidy, allowances for journals, conferences, hazard etc., as such and for instance, an Associate Professor at the bar pays a tax of about 672 thousand naira per annum.
